TCA Scholarship Recipients
2005 Recipient
Charlotte Chan
Charlotte Chan is the daughter of Cholik Chan and Joanna Yip. Charlotte is a Freshman at Catalina Foothills High School where she is Vice President of the Student Council. She is an honor roll student. She attended Chinese School for 8 years and won several First Place awards in the Tucson Chinese School Speech Competition for Cantonese speakers. She is quite accomplished on the violin and piano. Prior awards have included Merit Award, Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra Solo Competition, Violin, and Second Place, Senior Piano Division, Civic Orchestra Young Artist Competition. She volunteers by providing music entertainment for the elderly at The Place at Tucson (Assisted Living and Alzheimer facility). Ms. Chan won the TCA Talent/Skill Development Scholarship to attend the 2005 Southwest String Quartet High School Chamber Music Workshop.
2004 Recipients
Yue Zong
Yue the daugther of Mr. Zong and Ms Peng and she is a junior at University High where she has a 4.0 GPA. She is one of the starters on the basketball team. In her busy life she finds time to volunteer at the Southern Arizona Health Care Center. Last year she scored in the top 10% on the State High School Math Contest. She has studied at the Tucson Chinese School. Her career goal is to become a physician and help people in poor countries. She has played the violin for 7 years, and she was chosen to participate in the South Central Regional Orchestra; she is also a member of the Tucson Junior Strings.
She received a Talent/Skill Development Scholarship to attend the Tucson Junior Strings Chamber I Tour in Chicago.
Kelvin Lam
Kelvin is the son of Phillip and Annie Lam and he is a senior at University High where he maintains a 3.72 GPA. In 2003-2004 he placed first in the Arizona Academic Decathalon Region III Match competition, and third in the Language and Literature competition. He has been a volunteer at the Tucson Chinese School. His career ambition is to obtain at Ph.D. in Mathematics. Kelvin received a Talent/Skill Development scholarship to study piano at the Chamber Music in the Mountains program put on by the Tucson Junior Strings.
