ZHENG HE IN THE DESERT

An Original Dance Drama

Between 1405 and 1433, a Ming Dynasty sea captain named Zheng He made seven great voyages of exploration from China. He went at least as far as Africa, and perhaps beyond.

In collaboration with Barbea Williams Performing Company: https://www.facebook.com/BarbeaWilliamsPerformingCompany and other members of the Tucson community, Tucson Chinese Cultural Center developed an original dance drama around this history, which debuted at mid-Autumn Festival 2014.

Working across cultures was as important a part of the story as the dance itself.
